Recipes to Try

Hi everyone! Ribbit and I were talking this afternoon and thought it would be fun to have a blog where we can all make the same food (or different foods), and post pics and info about them for everyone to share. This is going to be the most fun if we all have the same cookbooks, so if anyone starts getting crazy on one book it may be worth checking out. :)

I'm putting a little list of things I want to try below - I'm not sure if there's a better place to keep these so we can all edit and add to the list, so let me know if you know of one.

On Tuesday night, if anyone wants to start then, I will be making (all recipes are from Veganomicon):
Samosa Baked potatoes (p60)
Tamarind Lentils (p123)
Pumpkin Saag (p184)
Rice (...)
Tea-poached pears (p246)

I'm cooking for 14 so I don't expect anyone else will also be making 5 dishes, but if you want to try out a couple with me, it should be good!

List of recipes I want to try:

Appetizers:
Spicy Tempeh Nori Rolls (Veganomicon, 47)
Grilled Yuca Tortillas (Veganomicon, 49)
Broccoli-Millet Croquettes (Veganomicon, 51)

Main Course:
Mac N "Cheese" (VeganYumYum - http://tinyurl.com/9o2gl8)
Cashew crusted tofu (The Vegan Foodie - http://tinyurl.com/amq648)
Tofu & Noodles (It Ain't Meat Babe - http://tinyurl.com/bbfymg)

Breads, Muffins, etc:
Poppy Seed Cornmeal Roti (Veganomicon, 221)
Pumpkin Cranberry Scones (Veganomicon, 225)
Almond Quinoa Muffins (Veganomicon, 227)
No-Knead Bread (NYT Blog - http://tinyurl.com/85k58z)

Carrot chocolate pie (http://tinyurl.com/cra4pu)
Sweet potato and almond cookies (Vegan Food & Fitness - http://tinyurl.com/b8fzvp)

Whoa, I've been planning on making the mac n cheeze from VeganYumYum for a while now! I made her wonton soup (http://veganyumyum.com/2008/03/wonton-soup/) and thought the dumplings were really good (though one batch was awful b/c I ran out of ginger and substituted galangal instead-- don't do that!).

And I will do the almond quinoa muffins as well.

Hey, wow, what a great idea!!!! I'll do something from Veganomicon this week, but soon (I think this weekend) Val and I are cooking Italian, Val from her new Marcella Hazan book and me from my old Marcella Hazan book. All I know so far is that I'm doing her unparalleled minestrone.

OK, it pays to read carefully. Tuesday we are having leftovers from Bombay and I don't want to put that off too long because they won't last. So -- maybe I'll make one dish (like the samosa baked potatoes, which sound intriguing) to round out the leftovers? Val and I had samosas with the original meal (B had aloo tikki chat, duh!), so these potatoes should be an excellent choice.

Okay, I've made the following of your recipes before:
Samosa Baked potatoes: a huge hit! you can always pop your potatoes in the microwave to finish cooking them if they didn't get fully done the first time around. (I read the newer post above).

Pumpkin Saag: Delicious!

Spicy Tempeh Nori Rolls: awesome! josh and i made these for a party last summer and people just INHALEd them. We serve them with the dipping sauce in V-con that's listed with the butternut squash rice paper rolls. Our friends agreed that the sauce really makes the sushi rolls, so try it that way!

Grilled Yuca Tortillas (Veganomicon, 49): love them

Poppy Seed Cornmeal Roti (Veganomicon, 221): not authentic, a lot of work, but tasty

Almond Quinoa Muffins: also delicious, but not my all-time favorite muffins. very healthy though.

No-Knead Bread: I'm pretty sure I've already expressed my love for this to you.

happy cooking!
